Tübbing delivery for the Filder Tunnel completed

Since December 2014, the Max Bögl Group has regularly supplied the construction site of the Filder Tunnel with segments from the precast factory in Sengenthal by rail. Tubbings are high-precision precast concrete elements and are used for the construction of the inner shell of the tunnel. The Fildertunnel consists of two tubes, each 9.5 km long, and is divided into the Lower and Upper Fildertunnel sections. Depending on the construction phase, the segment rings have a wall thickness of 45 or 60 cm and weigh around 71 or 93 tonnes respectively. In total, the group produced over 7,300 rings, each consisting of seven individual segments.

After a total of 474 trains, the last Tübbing train will now be sent to Stuttgart on 14.08.2019. Thanks to the sustainable rail transport, 22,973 truck transports could be avoided, which would otherwise have been necessary. In total, almost 600,000 tons of segments were transported from the Sengenthal plant to the receiving station near Plochingen. There they were transferred by forklift from the wagon to the truck or to the interim storage facility and then delivered to the tunnel portal. The Fildertunnel is part of the major "Stuttgart 21" project and will connect Stuttgart Central Station with the Filder plain after completion. It is part of the new Wendlingen-Ulm line.
