Bridge structures made by Max Bögl

The art of building bridges.

Max Bögl is one of the big names in the industry when it comes to the realisation of technically and architecturally sophisticated bridges. The task of overcoming a seemingly insurmountable obstacle - whether river or valley - has always been both a fascination and a challenge. Accompany the bridge construction specialists of the company group on a foray through the most modern engineering art with the latest construction techniques.

Bridge structures made by Max Bögl

Filstal Bridge

In the course of the Albaufstieg tunnel of the NBS Wendlingen-Ulm, the route between the Boßler Tunnel and the Steinbühlt Tunnel crosses the Fils Valley on two parallel, single-track bridges with lengths of 472 and 485 metres respectively. Germany's third highest railway bridge structure with a height of almost 85 metres is a semi-integral prestressed concrete bridge with y-shaped supports. In the Filsaue area, the span is around 150 metres.

Lahntal Bridge

Since December 2016, the 450-metre-long replacement of the old Lahntal bridge (1965-2016) on the A 3 motorway near Limburg has spanned the Lahn river valley at a height of over 60 metres on pair of reinforced concrete circular columns. The construction of the two separate semi-integral superstructures, each with two box girder cross-sections, using the cantilever method, is remarkable. After completion of the first superstructure, massive auxiliary piers for stabilising the superstructures were moved crosswise in pairs and used again for the construction of the second superstructure.

Aurachtal Bridge

At speeds of up to 160 km/h, the trains cross the Aurachtal valley at a height of 40 metres on the busy Nürnberg-Würzburg railway line near Emskirchen. The new construction of the filigree prestressed concrete bridge with a span width of 530 metres, distributed over ten fields, was constructed by means of a feed scaffold. The special feature: In the semi-integral design, the complete superstructure was monolithically connected to the piers.

Aftetal Bridge

The 785-metre-long steel composite bridge, which spans the Afte Valley at a height of almost 70 metres on its upwardly tapering piers, is the heart of the Bad Wünnenberg bypass. The trapezoidal steel superstructure is inserted over seven bays, and the carriageway slab is then constructed using the pilgrim step method. The challenge: large spans of up to 120 metres and a slim superstructure cross-section.

Neckar bridge

As part of the Stuttgart 21 project, the trains of the S-Bahn and long-distance trains are to roll on four parallel tracks over the new 345-metre Neckar bridge in Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt. The modern steel composite bridge with its characteristic steel sails replaces the existing four-track Rosenstein Bridge, which stands south of the new structure.

Neufahrner Spange

With the construction of the "Neufahrner Kurve", a 2.3-kilometer-long link between the Neufahrn Airport S-Bahn line and the Freising-Landshut line, the eastern Bavarian region is to be better connected to Munich Airport. The heart of the project, next to the two flyover structures, is a bridge construction consisting of 30 steel boxes over the BAB 92.
