Siemens AG's largest construction project worldwide

Virtual Laying of the Foundation Stone for Erlangen Campus

Almost two years after the architectural competition, construction work began on the first module of the Siemens Campus Erlangen at the beginning of December 2016. By 2030, a new city district with office buildings, a hotel as well as restaurants and service outlets is to be built in the south of the university city.

Siemens AG's largest construction project worldwide

The highlight of the ceremony in the presence of numerous guests of honor from politics, business and science was the virtual laying of the foundation stone with a drone as a means of transport for the journey into the future. On a large LED screen, those present were able to see in an elaborate, three-dimensional animation how the future campus will develop from the existing, more than 50 year old research site and blend into today's cityscape.

Visionary, urban, sustainable

The Siemens Campus is intended to bring together research and development and to facilitate an intensive exchange between employees from a wide range of business areas, research institutions and universities for the development of forward-looking technologies. The total area of 54 hectares will cover an area of over 75 soccer fields. The project is therefore not only one of Siemens AG's largest construction projects worldwide, but also a clear commitment to Erlangen and an important signal for Bavaria as a business and innovation location.

World's first CO²-neutral Siemens location

In the coming years, the campus will gradually become one of Siemens' most innovative and modern locations. The design by the renowned Frankfurt architects KSP Jürgen Engel Architekten promises future-oriented working environments with generous green and open spaces. Thanks to a CO²-neutral district cooling and district heating concept in cooperation with Stadtwerke Erlangen, the building and energy technology will also become a model for efficiency and sustainability.

Seven modules by 2030

By 2020, eight office buildings, three multi-storey car parks and a canteen in the first module are to be ready for occupancy on an area of around 100,000 square metres. Max Bögl was awarded the contract for the turnkey implementation of this first construction phase. Over the next ten years, modules 2 to 7 are to be implemented quickly.
